During the period (1991-1994), the following developments took place:

  • The compilation of a regional data base of scholars, educators and practitioners;
  • The inclusion of new members into APPRA, significantly the inclusion of indigenous peace builders of the Pacific;
  • The organization of two major regional conferences with the themes:

Peace and Security in the Pacific Region: Post Cold War Problems and Prospects, held in February 1991 at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand.

The proceedings of the New Zealand conference were published by the United Nations University Press and some papers were published in a special issue of Peace Review journal.

  • Conflict Resolution in the Asia-Pacific Region: Cross Cultural Perspectives on Problem Solving and Peacemaking, which was jointly hosted by APPRA, the Asia Foundation, and the University Sains Malaysia, Penang, Malaysia, May 22-26, 1994;Selected papers of the Penang conference were published in Pacifica, Vol. 6, No. 2.
